I believe the USS Planter's Displacement was 313 Tonnes and not 300 according to Navel Historical Record. http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/academic/history/marshall/military/civil_war_usa/C.S.N./p.txt. I will make the change for you. LukeDuke1980 (talk) 07:44, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any connection between the USS Rio Bravo & the USS Planter? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lukeduk1980 (talkcontribs) 08:18, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comprehensive source[edit]

Neither this article, nor Robert Smalls who was the hero who delivered the ship to Union forces, mentioned a 2014 comprehensive discussion of the subject. That source is (which I have now cited in the ship article) is: ‘’The Search for Planter: The Ship That Escaped Charleston and Carried Robert Smalls to Destiny’’ by Bruce G. Terrell, Gordon P. Watts, and Timothy J. Runyan, published in 2014 by National Marine Sanctuaries of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as National Marine Maritime Heritage Program Series Number 1. I have added one cite from that source to the article, but there is much more there.

This article is not on my lengthy personal list of articles to work on, so anyone who chooses to use it further for this article need not be concerned about stepping on my toes. Best wishes, Kablammo (talk) 23:48, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Harper's article from June 14, 1862, with images, is online: page 372 and page 373. Kablammo (talk) 15:26, 20 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
