I am unable to edit this page myself due to the semi-protected status, but the 06:46 27 March edit by @Repertoire18 seems to be inappropriate for several reasons. The edit reads as follows and was added to the introduction:
"In the days prior to June 4, unarmed soldiers sent to clear the protests were attacked by civilians armed with Molotov cocktails and iron clubs, resulting in severe casualties, including soldiers who were hanged and burned such as Cui Guozheng."
First and most important issue is the factual inaccuracy. Cui Guozhen was killed on the morning of June 4, 1989, after the fighting had begun. This edit portrays him as an unarmed soldier killed prior to June 4, which is false.
Second, the sources provided are low quality and do not relate to the claim. Their first source points to this page https://www.theguardian.com/notesandqueries/query/0,5753,-2317,00.html, which appears to simply be a public forum and which also makes no mention of Cui Guozheng. The second source points to this article https://www.wilsonquarterly.com/quarterly/_/tiananmen-square-at-25 which accurately describes that Cui Guozheng was a the name of a soldier killed during the conflict on June 3 - 4 according to state media, but this is at odds with the claim made by Repertoire18 that his death occurred in "the days prior to June 4" and the claim that he was unarmed.
Third, this edit seems to be placed here simply to provide justification for the PLA's actions on June 3-4.
A fair discussion of the violence against PLA soldiers should be welcomed, but it needs to be supported by proper sources, presented in an objective manner, and most importantly, be factually accurate. If someone with the ability to edit this page agrees, I'd be grateful if you could revert this edit. Trader347 (talk) 02:39, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I agree that this is a poor quality source. I've manually reverted the change. — The Hand That Feeds You:Bite 11:26, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edits to the lead of Tank Man article are misleading[edit]
Can someone who knows more about the massacre please take a look at this recent edit?
