Dr. Obdulio Piloto (1978-) is an American contemporary artist and scientist known for exploring themes of identity, particularly what it means to be human in an exponential period of human existence. [1]

Biography[edit]

Raised in a traditional Cuban family in Hialeah / Miami, Obdulio Piloto’s humble beginnings exposed him to the realities of human challenges. At the age of 8, Piloto lost his great-grandmother to cancer, an experience that initiated his interest in the sciences and urged his lifelong mission to find solutions for one of the world’s most devastating diseases. He did his graduate thesis work at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine on identifying mechanisms of drug resistance and developing novel means of targeting aberrant stem cells. He did his postdoctoral studies at Stanford University School of Medicine on cancer therapeutics. Dr. Piloto is currently the co-founder and CEO of Entopsis[2], a startup company developing a novel cloud-based platform for medical diagnosis. His research interests are focused on machine learning as applied to diagnostics. [3]

Career[edit]

Dr. Piloto majored in microbiology at Cornell University during his undergraduate period. After graduating in 2000, he studied at Johns Hopkins University and Stanford University, focusing on tumor immunotherapy, small molecule leukemia and peptide inhibitor research.

When Dr. Piloto was at Exelixis, he led a research team to conduct research on small molecule inhibitors for various diseases. In 2010, he was hired as Chief Scientific Officer by Conversant Biologics. In 2011, Dr. Piloto co-founded Entopsis with Dr. Ian Cheong, a startup backed by Peter Thiel’s Breakout Labs[4] that developed the groundbreaking diagnostic technology of NuTec.
