The Institut Médical Chrétien du Kasai (IMCK) or Christian Medical Institute of Kasai is located in the Kasai-Central region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. IMCK was founded in 1954 as a nursing school at the rural Presbyterian mission station of Lubondai, in what was then the Belgian Congo.[1] In 1964, IMCK relocated to Tshikaji, a village with a population of 10,000 ten miles south of the much larger city of Kananga (population 1,400,000). [2] Today, it now offers a laboratory technician school, college-level nursing program, 160-bed reference hospital, programs for nutrition, public health, research and medical internships, outpatient clinics (in Kananga as well as in nearby villages), a dental program, and specialized services in surgery, ophthalmology, maternity and pediatrics. [3]
