Summary

Description
English: This machine, in Otterburn Mill, Northumberland, is thought to be the last set of nineteenth-century fulling stocks in the UK still in their original position. Damp cloth was placed in the 'fulling box' where two heavy oak feet pounded it for two to three hours. This matted or pelted the cloth to give a bulky, warm handle.
